Former Sydney dance teacher Grant Davies jailed after sexually assaulting students

NSW dance teacher Grant Davies has been sentenced to at least 18 years' jail in a Sydney court over his abuse of students for more than a decade.

Davies, who was a director of inner-west dance RG Dance studio, last year pleaded guilty to 28 charges relating to child sex offences over 13 years.

Young women held hands in the public gallery as the sentence was handed down in the Downing Centre District Court on Friday.

In September 2014, a Sydney mother was jailed for 18 months for sending Davies sexually explicit and degrading images of her daughters.

"I knew it wasn't right ... I could have just got up and walked out, I know that now," the woman told the Downing Centre District Court.

The mother said she had been scared Davies would relegate her daughters to "back row" parts in dance concerts.

"In a number of cases, the offender fostered close relationships with the victims mother," court documents state.
