A gun has allegedly been found at a house linked to a slain Sydney crime figure as police push to curb retaliation attacks following recent gangland shootings.
Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad officers scoured the home of Tarek Assaad in Georges Hall, in Sydney's south-west, as part of a firearm prohibition orders search warrant on Thursday night.
It comes after his brother, Hamad Assaad, 29, was executed as he tried to leave his home on Sturt Avenue on the morning of October 25.
Tarek lives a few doors down from the home Hamad shared with his mother.
Fairfax Media understands officers found a Glock pistol at Tarek's home during Thursday night's search.
The action by MEOCS is part of a push to keep a lid on revenge attacks following the shooting of Hamad.
In announcing on Thursday a major strike force to oversee several fatal shootings in Sydney, police vowed to be proactive to stop any further killings.
Tarek has been charged with firearm and ammunition possession offences and is due to face Bankstown Local Court on Friday.
He is also facing a drug possession charge after police allegedly found a small amount of cocaine at his home.
Tarek was involved in tense scenes with police and media in the days after his brother was shot.
Hamad was shot multiple times as he tried to leave his home with his 12-year-old nephew.
He was well-known in criminal and police circles and had recently been pinned as a suspect in the murder of standover man Wally Ahmad in Bankstown in April.
