Twenty students have been injured, one seriously, after two school buses were involved in a crash south of Wollongong on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Tongarra Road at Albion Park just after 3.40pm.
Both buses were carrying students of varying ages from Illawarra Christian School.
Three cars were also involved in the crash.
A nine-year-old boy was seriously injured after he was "ejected" from one of the school buses.
He is being airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries.
The rest of the students are believed to have minor injuries.
Ambulance NSW Illawarra duty operations manager Inspector Norm Rees says four others have injuries which need to be treated while there are 15 "walking wounded" with minor injuries to be treated at the scene.
A rescue helicopter is preparing to land at the scene.
