Man dies after being pulled unconscious from Mermaid Pools in Tahmoor

A man has died after he was pulled unconscious from the water at Tahmoor, south-west of Sydney, on Friday in the state's eleventh drowning death since Christmas.

Police said the 27-year-old, from Pakistan, was swimming with friends when he dived into the water.

He got into trouble, signalling for assistance, then was pulled from the water as bystanders started CPR.

Attempts to resuscitate the man lasted for more than an hour, as police and an Ambulance helicopter were sent to the scene.

Paramedics were winched into the remote area to treat him. However, the man died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Vision from the swimming spot showed a large group of people standing on a rock ledge alongside police, as an Ambulance helicopter hovered nearby.

A group of emergency service workers stood around the man on a lower ledge, closer to the water.

The man is the eleventh to die from drowning in NSW since Christmas, while one man remains missing.
