A man has died after he was found unconscious in Sydney's west in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police were called to John Street in Lidcombe around 12.35am after passers-by found the man lying on the footpath.
Paramedics performed CPR, but the man could not be revived and died at the scene.
The man's cause of death is yet to be determined, however police said there are signs he "sustained a wound to his head".
Local police taped off John Street, near the intersection with Yarram Street, early on Monday as they investigated the man's death.
They are being assisted by detectives from the homicide squad.
In a statement, police said the man's body will be examined on Monday.
"A post mortem examination will be conducted later today to establish cause of death, and confirm the man's identity," a spokesperson said.
Police have urged anyone with information on the man's death to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
In particular, they are interested in anyone who may have been in the area in the hour before the man was found.
