Police are searching for a man who pulled a shotgun on officers twice before disappearing into bushland south of Coffs Harbour on Sunday.
David Bell, 37, was driving a white Toyota Hiace van that was stopped by police about 7.50am for a random breath test on the Pacific Highway at North Macksville.
He fled the scene and was pursued by police, during which time he aimed a shotgun at them.
Police followed the man up a dirt road near Valla, about 35 kilometres south of Coffs Harbour, setting up a roadblock. Shortly after this, police say Bell approached the roadblock and again aimed his gun at police. He then fled into bushland in his van.
Officers set up a perimeter in the area, with assistance from PolAir and traffic and highway patrol command units.
About 11am the van was found abandoned in bushland, and police have secured it for forensic analysis.
The search operation was suspended about 4pm on Sunday, but police are still looking to speak with David Bell.
Police have warned the public not to approach Bell, but to contact triple-0 immediately, as he may be armed and is wanted on interstate warrants.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175 to 185 centimetres tall, with a solid build, brown hair, and tattoos on his fingers. He was last seen wearing a black top.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
