Man taken to hospital after trench collapse at NorthConnex construction

A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital after a trench wall collapsed on him at the NorthConnex construction site in West Pennant Hills.

Emergency services were called to the site on Pennant Hills Road, just off the M2, about 8.20am to reports of a trench collapse, an ambulance spokesman said, leaving a male patient covered.

The man, aged in his 20s, was initially trapped but construction workers were able to extract him, a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said.

The man was suffering from back pain and taken to Westmead Hospital, and no other workers were trapped in the incident.

It's understood the trench collapse occurred approximately two kilometres into the NorthConnex tunnel.

A SafeWork NSW spokeswoman said they had been notified about the incident and inspectors were on their way to the scene.
